Juneau Days 3-7

Days 3-4: No pictures. Only pouring rain and bitter Alaskans. "Liquid sunshine" ceases to be funny. Only about 30% of the town's businesses remain open after the last cruise ship left on Sunday, they all sell/serve alcohol or caffeine. On the bright side I did find the best breakfast place in town, which happens to be connected to a boutique hotel where breakfast is complimentary. I curse my travel people for not booking me at this hotel instead of the one where I have to park up the hill and run to the front entrance in the rain. After 4 days of rain the air smells like dead fish.

Day 5: The sun comes out! Juneau begins to lose that odd smell, people look a little happier. I wander around town a little bit and find the following things:

The Coast Guard - apparently the point of this exercise was to see how close the helicopter could get to the boat without killing everyone.

The Mendenhall Glacier

Blue ice off of the glacier floating in the lake created by the receding glacier.

The State Capitol

A totem pole outside the City of Juneau Museum (museum closed)

The Governor's House a.k.a. where Sarah Palin lives when the Alaska legislature is in Juneau.

The mountains on Douglas, Alaska.

Gastineau Channel, Juneau on the left, Douglas on the right.

Day 6: No pictures, it's raining again.

Day 7: Outta here, on my way to Anchorage. On the way out notice this sign which sums up my experience in Juneau. They tried hard, but just couldn't quite get it.

Juneau Days 1 & 2

The wonder of DTV education has landed me in Juneau, Alaska. It is cold and rainy all the time, which has not improved the cold I picked up before coming here.

The view from my hotel room.

Mendenhall Glacier. I took this from a random parking lot near a Safeway. There was a sign saying "Mendenhall River," I looked up and there was a glacier!

Cheery downtown Juneau.

Sightseeing planes taking off from the port.

More of Downtown Juneau covered in clouds.

I ate here. Only it was this sunny or closed when I was here on Friday. Turns out they closed shortly afterwards for "cleaning" and we should all look forward to "lots of beer and a new menu" when they reopen. Anything will be an improvement over what I had Friday.

Oh and that green thing that looks like it's going to fall over is a bear-proof garbage can.
They're all over the city, which worries me a little.

North Carolina Wrap-Up

Yeah my North Carolina travel is finally over!
Here's some pictures of the final "Big Switch " Event:

A very big switch and some people I work with. I had to drive the switch from DC to Wilmington in a cargo van. Not my favorite trip during this project.

About a third of the press that ended up at this event, there were 3 camera crews from Japan!
